PSU FOOD SCIENCE PILOT PLANT
Pilot Plant Facilities
The Food Science Department has 3 pilot plants designed for flexibility. There is a wide variety of processing options available for short or long term projects. The Wet Pilot Plant is well-equipped for processing of dairy and other fluid foods and thermal processing. The Dry Pilot Plant is well-equipped for processing of confectionery and powder products. The Pathogens Pilot Plant is for microbial processing in a contained environment.
Instrumentation Facilities
In addition to the Department’s extensive resources, the Food Characterization Laboratory houses high-end instrumentation for measurement of thermal and physical properties of foods.
Sensory Analysis Facilities
The Food Science Sensory Laboratory is a state of the art facility for research, resident education and outreach. The facilities include 12 testing booths operating Compusense and a room for focus groups with video and recording capabilities.
